NEX-5N with Zeiss Contarex 115mm Tessar

Image
Here is Brian T's Sony NEX-5N with a Carl Zeiss Contarex 115mm f/3.5 Tessar macro bellows lens. The lens was produced between 1962 and 1972 and only 1500 were made. A Contarex to NEX E-mount adapter was used. from Brian: Surprisingly, it's pretty easy to hand hold with the bellows attached, holding the bellows in the left hand, and the camera in the right. It's super easy to focus using the bellows adjustment or on the lens. The bellows also pretty much removes the need for a tripod, as you can just support it on anything available for stabilization. Sony NEX and PlayStation PlayMemories Image Viewer

Image
Sony PS3 PlayMemories Image Viewer Here is a quick video of NEX panoramas viewed with PlayMemories on the PlayStation 3 . PlayMemories supports 3D photos from the NEX, unfortunately our TV is not 3D capable. What we can show you is a panorama taken with the NEX-5 at Monza during the 2010 Italian Grand Prix. We have not printed out a panorama and PlayMemories is a great alternative of sharing ultra-wide photos from the NEX. The exif information of the photo can be seen by press the X button on the controller. 12416 x 1856 pixels is difficult to print but easy to view on a large screen. The video was taken with the older NEX-5 with a Contax 28mm f/2.8 Distagon.

Sony NEX-FS100 with Conurus Smart EF Lens Adapter Here is a video by Luc Buelens showing the Sony NEX-FS100 Super 35mm Camcorder and the Conurus Canon EF Smart lens adapter with aperture control. The NEX-FS100 is shown to control the Canon 50mm f/1.4, 17-40L, and 70-200/f4L. Unfortunately the Canon 300mm f/4 lens did not work properly with the NEX Canon EF Smart Adapter. Canon EF Sony NEX Smart Lens Adapter by Conurus

Control Canon EF Lens Aperture on NEX Cameras The adapter most Canon EOS users are looking for is now available for ordering. The Conurus Canon EF to Sony NEX/E-mount Smart Lens Adapter allows the NEX to control the EOS lens' aperture. The NEX can control the EOS lens aperture in both Program and Shutter modes. The aperture can also be changed through the camera in Aperture and Manual modes. The EF to NEX Smart Adapter works with most Canon EF and EF-S lenses. Image Stabilization (IS) on EOS lenses is also fuctional. The only feature not working is of course Autofocus. Here is the description from Conurus . This Smart AdapterTM has the following features: ■ True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm - let camera automatically choose aperture in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes. ■Powered by camera body. No external power source required. ■Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing ea

NEX-5 Leica 50mm Summilux and High ISO

Image
I was lucky enough to catch a few drinks with another photo enthusiast who happen to have a Leica M8 and a chrome 50mm Summilux-M ASPH. I had my NEX-5 with a Voigtlander 35mm Ultron since I needed the speed whilst at the drinking hole. He was generous enough to slap the Summilux-M onto my Leica-Nex lens adapter and allowed me to use it. All the shots here were taken with the 50mm lens wide open at f/1.4, thus Summilux. The NEX-5 was set to Aperture Priority and ISO 3200 and with the dim lighting conditions at the bar forced the Shutter speed at 1/20th of a second. I would have preferred a shutter speed of 1/75 or higher (50mm x 1.5 crop factor) to keep camera movement at a minimum. The 50mm Summilux-M ASPH is a brick of a lens and I think the weight help stabilize the camera or was it the fear of dropping someone else's lens? The focusing was very well damped, a big difference from my Voigtlander. This made focusing a bit easier with the Leica. The shots were taken in RAW

Sony NEX Essential Accessories

Image
So you're ready to order your new NEX camera , what else do you need to complete your kit? Here's a list of essential NEX accessories which each kit should have. What you need in your NEX kit. Class 10 SD Memory Cards - You will definitely need memory cards for you NEX - it will not come with one. We suggest using high speed and high quality SD cards for maximum photo and video performance. It's also a good idea to get multiple cards instead of just one high capacity card in case a problem occurs. Extra Sony NEX NP- FW50 Battery - your NEX camera will come with a battery but if you plan on shooting for a whole day, it's always good to have a backup. Sony NEX E-mount body cap and rear lens cap - your NEX camera will unfortunately not come with a body cap or a rear lens cap. It's a good idea to have the caps available for storage purposes. You can easily separate the NEX body from the lens and it will make for a very compact package to carry. If you buy E-mou

Sony NEX-7 with Rokkor-M Konica and Contax Lens

Sony NEX-7 ISO 800 with 18-55mm OSS @52mm f/5 We posted earlier about our trip to Unique Photo to see the new Sony NEX-7 . It was an open house with Sony representatives exhibiting the new Alpha and NEX cameras, Sony lenses, and flash guns. There was a lot of interest with the new cameras so our time with the NEX-7 was curtailed. The Sony representatives were all very helpful allowing lens changes and personal memory card usage to grab some images of the pre-production NEX-7. The brief time with the NEX-7 was great. Since the NEX-5 was our main camera, it's been a while since we used a viewfinder. The NEX-7's EVF was a new experience. It felt odd in the beginning putting a small electronic screen up to your eye but we adjusted by the end of the night. We didn't have time to adjust the diopter, which we should have. All the information from the rear LCD is translated to the 2.36 million dot, 0.5" XGA OLED EVF. The EVF and slightly larger body of the NEX-7 made

Sony NEX-5 with Hasselblad 50mm Distagon FE

Here is didjeridoo_tom's Sony NEX-5 cinema setup. He is using a Hasselblad 50mm f/2.8 Distagon with floating lens elements via a Hasselblad to EOS lens adapter, then an EOS to NEX E-mount lens adapter. The display of the NEX-5 is produced on the Sony CLMV55 portable 5" monitor via an HDMI cable. The Hasselblad 50mm Distagon FE provides excellent color correction close up and wide open. It was also the preferred lens for NASA space missions. Check out the photos of didjeridoo_tom 's NEX-5 with the Distagon T* 2.8/50 FE and samples from the combination. Sony NEX-5N with Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor TD J L Smith wanted a telephoto lens for his Sony NEX-5N so he found a Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor TD lens. He used a Minolta SR mount to Sony E-mount lens adapter and started shooting. The Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor translates to a 900mm FOV when used with the NEX-5N.
