Sony Alpha NEX Cameras and E Mount Lenses

darwinfish105 used the Sony NEX-6 time lapse app at 1 second intervals and the Sony A7s with the RM-VPR1 remote in continuous mode to produce this wonderful time lapse.

Sony NEX-7 with Speed Booster vs Nikon D600 TheCameraStoreTV posted their hands on video with the Metabone Speed Booster for NEX cameras. They used the Canon EOS to NEX Speed Booster lens adapter on the NEX-7. In the video they compare the NEX-7 and the Nikon D600 , a full frame camera, to see if there are perceptible differences. They used a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM lens on both cameras. The exposures were set to be equal at ISO 200 and aperture set at f/8. The NEX-7 with the Speed Booster registered and aperture of f/5.6 due to the full stop of light from the adapter. The D600 registered f/8. Let's see how the Sony NEX-7 's APS-C (23.5x15.6mm) sensor does against the latest generation of full frame (24x36mm) sensors. DxOMark rates the NEX-7's sensor at 81 and the new Canon 5d Mark III garnered the same score. The Nikon D800 's sensor, made by Sony, gets a score of 95 - the highest on DxOMark for a full frame camera. The NEX-7 provides a slight advantage in dynamic range against the 5d MkIII at low ISOs - 320 and under. Color depth is a push between the two cameras and the 5d MkIII's larger sensor and larger pixel pitch gives it the edge at high ISO shots. Take a closer look at the DxOMark comparison for yourself. Overall the NEX-7 is still one of the best APS-C sensors. It provides a great sensor in a neat versatile little package.

4 Days with the NEX-FS700 by Andrew Young This is the newest camera of the NEX system. It is a pro level camcorder dubbed the Sony NEX-FS700 NXCAM. NEX-7 24mp APS-C Sensor vs Leica, Canon, Nikon, and Fuji DxOMark published their test results for the Sony NEX-7 sensor and we wanted to see how it compares to the most popular cameras around. The top row shows the NEX-7 vs the full frame contenders, Leica M9 and the Canon 5d Mark II. The NEX-7 comes out on top overall with a score of 81. The Canon 5dII is a close second gaining a DxOMark of 79. The Leica M9 comes in third with a score of 69. The NEX-7 edges out both full frame contenders in Portrait (Color Depth) and Landscape (Dynamic Range). The 5dII wins in the Low Light ISO category followed by the NEX-7 with the M9 in third. Sony NEX-5 3D Rig with Nikkor 20mm Lens Dennis Biela sent us an email to share their Last Shuttle Project which uses the Sony NEX-5 in a 3D configuration. The Last Shuttle Project intends to show the an exclusive perspective on the final mission of NASA's Space Shuttle program. The NEX 3D rig positions the two NEX-5 to provide a stereoscopic view for photos and videos. Two Nikkor 20mm f/4 AI Lens using Nikon F to E-mount lens adapters . Here is some footage that Steve N shot with his NEX-VG10 and the Sigma 50-500mm ultra zoom lens aka Bigma. The Bigma used is a Nikon mount so it does have an aperture ring but focusing is all done manually. Steve points out: ...Sony hasn't equipped the VG10 with focus confirmation or focus assist: there is no peaking or image enlargement which would help immensely when working with MF lenses...perhaps a firmware update can address this! Sony stated at Photokina that they will be working with third party lens makers so we can expect focus confirmation, and aperture control on adapted lenses. Here are Steve N's pictures of his Sony NEX-VG10 , a Nikon F mount to Sony E-mount lens adapter, and a Sigma 50-500mm f/4.5-6.3 APO Ultra Telephoto, aka the Bigma . This would give an equivalent of 90mm to 900mm zoom lens on the NEX-VG10 with it's 1.8x crop factor. We'll post videos soon... Check out Steve N's work !

NEX-5 Auto-HDR Panorama with Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye Check out the VR version . Check out these amazing panoramas by G. Kemp using a Sony NEX-5 and a Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8 G ED Fisheye lens . He uses the NEX-5's Auto-HDR feature for each shot then stitches them together with editing software. A Nikon G to Sony E-mount lens adapter is used to the lens on the NEX-5.
