NEX-5 High ISO Black and White with CV 35 Ultron

Image
We wanted to test out what the NEX-5 can do with a fast lens and low light so we got a chance to play with a Cosina Voigtlander 35mm f/1.7 Ultron. The CV 35 Ultron is a Leica screw mount with a Leica M adapter, a Leica M to Sony NEX E-mount adapter is then used. These are all handheld at f/1.7, High ISO NR = weak, long exposure NR = off, and center weighted metering. Here is the discontinued CV 35 Ultron on the NEX-5. The silver on silver looks great, we just need to convince adapter makers to make them in silver as well. The lens has a large focusing ring which is very easy to use. The 52.5mm equivalent focal length makes it an exceptional walk-around lens.

NEX-5 with Minolta Rokkor MC 58mm f/1.2

Image
G.K. mounted the ultra fast Minolta Rokkor MC 58mm f/1.2 on the Sony NEX-5 and here are some of the results. The resulting 87mm equivalent focal lenght and the very shallow depth of field makes the Rokkor 58/1.2 a perfect portrait lens. See G.K.'s NEX-5 with Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 gallery .

Sony NEX Kipon Tilt Lens Adapters Available

Image
So how do you achieve the selective focus as seen in the video above? It is done with by tilting the lens so that it is not parallel to the image sensor, aka the Scheimpflug principle . Kipon released 4 tilt adapters for the Sony NEX cameras. Contax / Yashica, Leica R, M42, and Nikon F manual focus lenses can be adapted and tilted on the Sony NEX. They are available on eBay and Amazon . Sony NEX to Contax / Yashica Lens Tilt Adapter Sony NEX to Nikon F Lens Tilt Adapter Sony NEX to M42 Lens Tilt Adapter Sony NEX to Leica R Lens Tilt Adapter

Sony NEX-5 Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm

Image
Jacek paired the Sony NEX-5 and the Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f/2.8 via a Kipon E-mount to M42 lens adapter and here are his results. He stated that "the threaded plate is upside down which means that lens scale numbers are facing down." He has informed Kipon about this issue. The problem is easily rectified with a screwdriver. Byron aka sixty9 saw the NEX-5 and Summarit-M combination and said: I like my combination better: the Leica 35/1.4 on the nex5. It's smaller and it's f1.4! Well here is his combination. He paired the Sony NEX-5 with a Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M Pre-ASPH via Sony NEX E-mount to Leica M Lens adapter. Here are some sample photos with this combination. Peekaboo!
