New Sony NEX Lenses with the Old Photos by Alpha604 Here are the newly announced Sony NEX lenses with the 16mm pancake and the 24mm Zeiss ZA E. The three new lenses are all native E-mount, feature Optical Steady Shot (OSS), and come in black. The smallest of the new lenses is the 16-50mm Power Zoom lens . The lens is very compact yet provides an equivalent fov of 24mm to 75mm. The retractable zoom lens has a very small filter thread of ø40.5mm, similar to Minolta CLE lenses. The lens to the right of the 16-50 PZ is the 35mm f/1.8 lens . This lens provides an efov of 52.5mm - perfect for street photography. It has a filter diameter of ø49mm similar to the 50mm f/1.8 OSS and the 30mm macro - both are being discounted at the moment. The last and the largest of the new NEX lenses is the 10-18mm wide angle zoom lens . The efov is 15mm to 27mm, perfect for close quarters shooting. The lens has a constant maximum aperture of f/4 and a large front element with a ø62mm filter

32mm f/1.8 Zeiss Planar Autofocus Lens on the Sony NEX-7 (rendered) Here is more good news from Photokina 2012. Zeiss will expand their line of E-mount autofocus lenses from 1 to 4 by summer of 2013. Here is what we know so far about the new Zeiss lenses: Optimized for APS-C sensors and made in E-mount. Focal lenghts to be offered: 12mm f/2.8 Distagon (18mm efov) ø67mm filter 32mm f/1.8 Planar (48mm efov) ø52mm filter 50mm f/2.8 macro (75mm efov) Zoom lenses are being considered. Autofocus with manual override. High quality and lightness are driving factors. Each lens will be comparable in price to the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 ZA E lens , around £1000. Made in Japan. We were off by a few mms on the focal lengths when we posted about this a ten days ago. The prototype lenses will be on display at the Zeiss booth at Photokina. Here is the interview with Carl Zeiss' Dr. Pollman with respect to the new Zeiss lenses for Sony NEX cameras. Video from Zeiss booth at Photokina

NEX Canon Lens Autofocus Adapters Coming?

Canon 50mm EOS Lens on Sony NEX-7 with Autofocus Here is a second video showing a NEX camera controlling the autofocus drive of a Canon EOS / EF lens. The lens used was the Nifty Fifty, Canon 50mm f/1.8 on a Sony NEX-5 and a NEX-7. The new NEX-5R with a hybrid autofocus system (Phase Detection and Contrast Detection designed for speed and accuracy) should improve the autofocus speed shown in the video. Canon's EOS-M mirrorless compact camera uses the same hybrid autofocus system. Our assumption was wrong - the Canon stepper motor (STM) lens is not necessary for the NEX to control the Canon autofocus drive. The Canon EOS to NEX adapter with AF drive shown can control a standard EOS lens. The Canon EOS-M requires an EOS M Mount adapter to drive the same lens. If you have Canon EOS lenses and want a light, compact camera to use them on - this seems to be the best option so far. Canon 50mm EOS Lens on Sony NEX Autofocus Drive from MX Camera It's only a matter of time when

Sony NEX-7 with Schneider Kreuznach 14mm Super Angulon Mockup Another lens manufacturer is joining the Sony NEX E-mount family. The lens will have an effective focal length of 21mm on the NEX's APS-C sensor. Early news states that the lens will be autofocus and will be the first of a range of lenses from Schneider for the E-mount. The rest of the range will be announced this September at Photokina. Above is a mockup of the Schneider Super Angulon on the Sony NEX-7. This is a very preliminary image and the Schneider final product may be totally different. Schneider Kreuznach 14mm f/2 Super Angulon Schneider Kreuznach will join Tamron and Sigma as a 3rd party manufacturer of Sony NEX E-mount autofocus lenses.

Here are quick mockups of what the new Digital Neo lenses from Sigma will look like on the Sony NEX-5N . Both prime lenses from Sigma will work with the NEX's autofocus system. The 19mm f/2.8 DN lens translates to an FOV of 28.5mm and the 30mm f/2.8 DN translates to an FOV of 45mm due to the NEX APS-C sensor. Both lenses have a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and f/22 as a minimum. The filter size is also the same at 46mm. The Sigma Digital Neo lens system was announced at CES 2012. We are hoping for more DN lenses soon. NEX-5N with Sigma 30mm f/2.8 Digital Neo Lens The Sigma 30mm f/2.8 DN is a 7 element in 5 group lens construction. The lens weighs a mere 4.8 oz (135 grams). Upcoming 2011 Sony NEX E-mount Lenses Knight Like the Wind Child from Xitek Forums posted a picture of a slide from a recent Sony presentation in China. The slide shows the updated NEX lens roadmap with the newest E-mount lenses to be released this year. We posted the roadmap back in February and it has changed considerably. First the 30mm is now clearly defined as the Sony NEX 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens with a 1:1 reproduction ratio. The SEL30M35 lens will be sold at a price of $250 and will be available in September. We have more info here . Second, the most awaited NEX lens, the Carl Zeiss 24mm in native E-mount is now closer to reality with the maximum aperture of f/2 being defined. The lens looks to be a bit shorter than what was shown in the February lens roadmap. We are in favor of lighter and more compact lenses to keep with the NEX system's main advantage over DSLRs. 36mm FOV on the NEX is nearly the perfect normal / wide angle view for most photographers. Third is tha

The lens will provide an equivalent FOV of 45mm on the NEX APS-C sensor for photos and 54mm for videos. When used on the NEX-FS100, the lens has an FOV of a 45mm lens for HD videos. The price of the new NEX 30mm f/3.5 Macro is listed at 30,000 Yen from the Sony Japan website. This the same price as the NEX 16mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens which currently goes for $249 dollars. Sony NEX Birger EOS Lens Adapter

Image
Birger EOS Adapter on Sony NEX-FS100 NXCAM DSLR News Shooter was at National Association of Broadcasters 2011 Convention in Las Vegas and was shown the Birger Engineering Canon EOS to Sony NEX E-mount adapter prototype. The Birger adapter allows for full control of aperture and focusing of EOS lenses by any NEX camera. Canon IS (Image Stabilization) will also be supported by the adapter. Unfortunately this wasn't shown in the video since most videographers use manual focus. A Follow Focus unit which allows for remote control of the EOS lens' aperture and focusing will also be available as an accessory from Birger. The Birger EOS to NEX adapter also has a graphical user interface which shows the status of the EOS lens. The Birger Engineering Canon EOS to Sony NEX adapter will be around $700 and will be released in the end of May. The Follow Focus unit will be released in the summer and will be about $700 as well. Birger Engineering is also working on a Nikon lens controller, whi

Upcoming Sony NEX E-mount Lenses

Can anyone translate this? Here is the current schedule for upcoming E-mount lenses for the Sony NEX system from Sony Japan . It looks like we can expect the Sony 30mm (45mm FOV), 50mm (75mm FOV), and 55-200mm (82.5 - 300mm FOV) zoom lenses this year. The one lens most people are waiting for will also be available soon, the Carl Zeiss 24mm lens is expected to be released this year. The CZ 24mm autofocus NEX lens will provide an equivalent field of view of 36mm, wide angle normal, on the APS-C sensor. Three more lenses will be available in 2012. Hopefully someone can translate the image above so we can have more information on what they are. All these E-mount lenses will be autofocus lenses. Images from Akihabara News . Sony NEX LA-EA1 Alpha Lens Autofocus Videos

Image
Here are first two videos showing us the NEX autofocusing a Sony Alpha 30mm f/2.8 Macro DT with SAM , Sony Alpha 18-55 DT SAM and a Sony Alpha 35mm f/1.8 DT with SAM via the LA-EA1 lens adapter . This is now possible with the new NEX Firmware Version 03 . The first video, with the SAL35F18, shows that it's not the fastest at locking focus but it's acceptable. The 2nd video shows the SAL1855 focusing at an acceptable speed. The 3rd video, with the SAL35F28 Macro, shows the worst of it hunting to lock focus. It may be because of the aperture and the available light but we can't be certain. Check out our post with manual focus samples with the DT SAL30F28 Macro.
