Sony SSM and SAM Lenses Tested on NEX
albnok went down to the local Sony Style store armed with the NEX-5, LA-EA1 Alpha Lens Adapter, and Firmware Version 3.0. He tested out most of the compatible Sony Alpha lenses with the LA-EA1 adapter and NEX's new autofocus capability. Here are the videos to give us an idea of the NEX focusing Sony Alpha lenses in video mode.
Sony Alpha SSM Lenses with LA-EA1 Lens Adapter
- Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 16-35 f/2.8
- Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar 24-70 f/2.8
- 70-200mm f/2.8
- 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G
- 70-400mm f/4-5.6 G
- Focus range limited to 3m (minimum) via switch on lens:
- 70-200
- 70-300
- 70-400
Sony Alpha SAM Lenses with LA-EA1 Lens Adapter
- 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
- 28-75mm f/2.8
- 30mm f/2.8 Macro
- 50mm f/1.8
- 55-200mm f/4-5.6
it seems that the SAM lenses have a much louder noise af mechanism, thus it's not good for making video. and you can use the A mode in the video to lock to a specific subject so the af doesn't go back and fourth.
