Sony NEX with Zeiss 50mm Makro Planar

Image
Sony NEX-5 with Zeiss 50mm Macro Lens Berylliuminc was gracious enough to share some images from his NEX-5 and the Zeiss 50mm f/2.0 Makro Planar ZF . The Zeiss 50 MP has a Nikon mount and a Novoflex Nikon to NEX E-mount adapter is used. This equates to a 75mm field of view for the NEX APS-C sensor. Here are the NEX with Zeiss 50 Makro samples. The colors and drawing style is what you can expect from a Zeiss lens. These images were JPGs straight from the NEX-5 with no post processing. They were downsized to be posted here. Thanks Beryllium Inc!!

Sony NEX-5 with Sirene 135 Large Format Camera

Image
Sony NEX-5 with a 1920s Sirene 135 9x12 cm large format camera Face emailed us with an interesting contraption. He had a Sirene 135, with a 13 cm lens and maximum aperture of f/8, that was collecting dust and a new Sony NEX-5 . He cut a hole in the back of the Sirene 135 and attached an E-mount lens cap to it. The NEX-5 now functions as a digital back for this large format camera made between 1914 and 1926. Face tells us that focusing is quite difficult since the lens needs plenty of light with a maximum aperture of f/8. He sets the NEX shutter at 4 seconds and uses the Sirene 135's shutter mechanism to take the shot. Amazing for a camera almost 100 years old. The NEX sensor size is 23.4 x 15.6 mm which is more than 5 times smaller than the original 9x12 cm film plates that the Sirene 135 used. Here are some impressive sample photos taken with the Sirene 135 and the NEX-5 digital back. Thanks Face!

Upcoming Sony NEX E-mount Lenses

Image
Can anyone translate this? Here is the current schedule for upcoming E-mount lenses for the Sony NEX system from Sony Japan . It looks like we can expect the Sony 30mm (45mm FOV), 50mm (75mm FOV), and 55-200mm (82.5 - 300mm FOV) zoom lenses this year. The one lens most people are waiting for will also be available soon, the Carl Zeiss 24mm lens is expected to be released this year. The CZ 24mm autofocus NEX lens will provide an equivalent field of view of 36mm, wide angle normal, on the APS-C sensor. Three more lenses will be available in 2012. Hopefully someone can translate the image above so we can have more information on what they are. All these E-mount lenses will be autofocus lenses. Images from Akihabara News . NEX-5 vs Leica M8 vs Canon 5d Mark II

Image
Let's see how the Sony NEX-5 does against a couple of heavyweights, the Leica M8 and the Canon 5d Mark II. The test is not scientific since different lenses were used by two different photographers. Light, post processing, etc are also factors that has to be accounted for variations in the images. Let's see what a camera one quarter the cost of the other two can produce. Here is Neuschwanstein Castle from the perspective of the Sony NEX-5 and the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon . Here is what the Leica M8 produces with the same lens at f/8.0. Here is what the Canon EOS 5d Mark II and the Zeiss 50mm f/2.0 Makro Planar at f/8.0 sees. The Canon 5dII is used again but with a Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 Planar at f/8.0. Here are some pictures of Neuschwanstein Castle taken with the Sony NEX-5.
