This utility updates the NEX-5N Camera Firmware to version 1.01 and provides the following benefits:
- Improves the AF response for situations where the distance of the subject changes considerably
- Improves stability when operating the camera using the [Lens Compensation: Distortion] "Auto" and [Picture Effect] "Miniature" settings at the same time
- Improves camera operations when using the [Exposure Compensation] and [Intelligent AF] settings
NEX-5N Firmware Update
Check your local Sony Support website to download NEX-5n Firmware 1.01 Update for Windows or Mac OS. Read the instructions twice before doing the update and make sure your battery is at 100%.
Unfortunately there is still no 7 shot exposure bracketing.

Thanks Mark R and Sony!
It took a little poking around to find the link for the MAC OS X version on the US Site.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the double-post. I should have waited until I'd completed the update. It turns out that the Mac OS X updater is a 32-bit only application. If you're running OS X 10.7, you're probably in 64-bit mode by default and the updater will just tell you it can't run because of that.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't run across this with any other application before. It turns out that you can boot to a 32-bit kernel by rebooting and holding down the 3 and 2 keys while you boot.
Once I did that, the updater ran fine and my camera now displays the 1.01 version internally.
Thanks for the information Orobros.
ReplyDeleteAdded a comparison video of the autofocus speed after the firmware version 1.01 update on the NEX-5N.
ReplyDelete1.01 has apparently been withdrawn. Couldn't load it, and the tech had no idea that 1.01 even existed. Went to page and .05 is the latest!!
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded and ran the update. 1.01 now.
