NEX Tips and Tricks for Filmmakers



Here is Adam Roberts' tips and tricks on using the NEX-5 for film making. He discusses setting up the soft keys to help in creating videos. He then goes through the custom white balance setting. He used a very flat setting for the videos, reduced contrast, reduced saturation, and reduced sharpness, which was changed through the NEX's Creative Style menu.

After the NEX-5 settings, he discusses the hardware he used. He quickly talks about lens adapters, third party lenses, Lensbaby Tilt Transformer, and follow focus.

The last part of the video is on video workflow. Adam R. used AVCHD (.MTS) to film with the NEX-5. The files (.MTS) were then converted to quicktime files (.MOV) by using ClipWrap before using Final Cut Pro to do the final edit.

    Highly inspiring. Excellent demo. And "Another Yesterday" - so crispy... I'm a senior film- and tv journalist in Sweden. Just set up a 2cam-mount with NEX 5's and Zoom Hn4 and a couple of LILLIPUT monitors.

    I'm planning to skip the 18-55 Sony lenses. Have some difficulties to control focus and have come to the conclusion that lenses with scale and index may ad the control you miss with the originals.

    Hi Adam! Very useful tutorial
    Its possible to have follow focus without the tilt transformer? Are the standard follow focus suitable for the sony nex 18-55 mount lens?

Slow and Quick Video Mode Options for Timelapse Shoot Timelapse Videos with Sony Alpha Cameras using Slow and Quick (S&Q) Motion Video Mode Christopher Burress shows us how to take a time lapse video with his Sony a6500 . He uses S&Q Mode which is found in the Video Settings. This is identical to the method we need to use on the new a7r iii . The cameras then combine all the files shot at one frame per second to a video shown at your set speed.
