Sony NEX-5 vs Canon S90 Size Battle

Image
The current king of pocket point and shoots, the Canon Powershot S90 , goes up against the new contender, the Sony NEX-5 in this size comparison. Let's not mention the depth but the length and width of the two cameras are very close. This is due to the 3" screen that both cameras have. The NEX-5 edges the S90 in pixel resolution, 920k vs 461k.

Sony NEX NP-FW50 Replacement Battery on eBay

Image
One of the complaints about the Sony NEX camera is the short battery life. Sony rates the Sony NEX-5 with the NP-FW50 battery to last 330 shots (CIPA Standard). We are guessing that most NEX users are not shooting just still images. How can one resist HD videos and the Sweep Panorama, both of which are definite battery hogs. If you are one who feels the need for backup power, eBay has the answer. Replacement NP-FW50 Batteries are now on eBay . They share the same capacity as the OEM Sony NP-FW50 Battery but not much else. Beware that using third party batteries can damage the Sony NEX camera and can void the warranty.

Sony NEX-5 Summilux-M 35mm Pre-ASPH

Byron aka sixty9 saw the NEX-5 and Summarit-M combination and said: I like my combination better: the Leica 35/1.4 on the nex5. It's smaller and it's f1.4! Well here is his combination. He paired the Sony NEX-5 with a Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M Pre-ASPH via Sony NEX E-mount to Leica M Lens adapter. Here are some sample photos with this combination. Peekaboo! The Modern 35mm Summilux-M ASPH Thanks Byron aka sixty9 . We need more photos!

New Sony Lenses are NEX Friendly

Image
Sony NEX-5, LA-EA1 adapter, Zeiss 24mm Distagon Sony announced the release of 3 new lenses today and 2 of them are very NEX friendly due to their focal lengths. The 1st is the long awaited Zeiss 24mm f/2 Distagon SSM (SAL24F20Z) lens, which is pictured above. This gives the NEX user an equivalent focal length of 3f6mm, perfect all around fov. But this lens shows it's full potential on the full frame Sony Alpha A850 and A900 Cameras - NEX-7? The second lens is the Sony DT 35mm f/1.8 SAM (SAL35F18). This lens is designed specifically for APS-C sensors, which the NEX cameras use. This gives the NEX user a fast f/1.8 lens for low light shooting with an equivalent focal length of 52.5mm. This one will be priced NEX friendly as well, $200 is our guess. The third lens will be perfect for head shots, street candids, and trips to the zoo with the NEX. The Sony 85mm F2.8 SAM SAL85F28) gives NEX users an equivalent focal length of 127.5mm. At 175 grams, it's 20 grams lighter than

Sony NEX-3 18-55 OSS Adobe Lens Profile

Image
Paul G took the time and effort and created an Adobe Lens Profile for the Sony NEX-3 and the 18-55 OSS lens using the Adobe Lens Profile Creator. Lens Profile Creator characterizes three common types of lens aberrations, namely the geometric distortion, the lateral chromatic aberration and the vignette. Download Paul G's Sony NEX-3 + 18-55 OSS lens profile: http://paul300.com/nex/NEX-5.lcp . Alternate download link . Since Adobe does not support RAW files from Sony NEX cameras, you can only use the Lens Profile with JPGs to correct geometric distortion, lateral chromatic aberration and vignetting. For now you will have to import the jpgs in Lightroom and you can apply the lens correction. I think adobe will very soon include raw support for the nex though. Click here to learn more about the Adobe Lens Profile Creator and how to use lens profiles. Thanks Paul G ! Hopefully Adobe ACR will support Sony NEX RAW files soon and a Lens Profile for the 16mm pancake will be available as we
