Tom H. took the Sony NEX-5N and the NEX-5 for a stroll and came back with these comparison photos. The lens used was the kit 18-55mm OSS lens. The camera settings were P Mode, Auto ISO, and Auto White Balance. The samples are JPGs with minor editing.

The NEX-5N has the new lens correction feature which adjusts Lens Distortion, Vignetting, and Chromatic Aberration. This was used in the sample photos from the NEX-5N. The NEX-5N also has a minimum ISO of 100 compared to 200 for the NEX-5.

    ...should we throw away our NEX-5 or the sony's people will deliver a firmware also for us?

    I'm guessing this distortion correction only works for JPG images, and RAW will be unaffected?

    ie, we won't see the benefit if we use RAW files?

    SONY should make a firmware update. v5.0.
    ISO 100 allow make better photos.

    @ezio and @Nikko hopefully the Sony raw converter will have the lens corrections incorporated.

    @goodspeed hopefully the NEX-3 and NEX-5's next firmware will include some of the NEX-5N's capabilities.

Use Medium Format Lenses with Sony A7 Cameras

Sony A7 ii with a Mamiya 645 80mm f/1.9 lens via Kipon Baveyes Focal Reducer. Here is a review of the Kipon Baveyes medium format lens focal reducer adapter for Sony A7 cameras.  This adapter has a lens element that concentrates the medium format image circle down to the size of a 24x36mm sensor of the Sony A7 cameras with a 0.7x factor.  The 80mm lens above has an equivalent focal length of 56mm.  The concentrated light also gives us one stop of extra light.  The f/1.9 is an equivalent f/1.36, a very fast medium format lens.
