NEX FDA-SV1 and 3rd Party Viewfinders
Sony NEX-5 with a Cosina Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 Ultra Wide-Heliar and matching Viewfinder
We learned a nice trick today from AONO2009 about the Sony NEX FDA-SV1 Optical Viewfinder - the eyepiece can be separated from the base. Now we have a cold shoe that we can mount any 3rd party viewfinders on. Make sure to account for the 1.5x crop factor when buying one, a 24mm lens means you will need a 36mm viewfinder.
This is a daydream for me to have this fantastic combination. It could be even much more wonderful if we could have a shift lens adapter for Voigtlander with this lens as well.

I'd love to know what worked to release the two pieces?
ReplyDeleteI use the Sony-issue viewfinder with my 16mm kit lens, but researched these alternative viewfinders. I noticed that the attachment included a standard shape shoe and tried a few ways to dislodge the viewfinder. I was unsuccessful.

Raises the sticker of rubber that is in the part of the lens when the viewfinder is mounted in the camera and unscrew also the screw that is bellow the sticker.
ReplyDeletewhere i can find the NEX shoe?
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, you need to buy the FDA-SV1 to get the shoe. An aftermarket option is on it's way though.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll wait to see what that looks like before I do surgery on the viewfinder. What I really want is the use of the viewfinder AND a small flash for parties. The only lens I have is the 16 so I shoot with the camera up to my eye all the time.
ReplyDeleteThat flash+viewfinder use was one of the best elements of the Panasonic design (GF-1 if I remember the model # correctly.)
