Sony NEX-7 with Rokkor-M Konica and Contax Lens

Image
Sony NEX-7 ISO 800 with 18-55mm OSS @52mm f/5 We posted earlier about our trip to Unique Photo to see the new Sony NEX-7 . It was an open house with Sony representatives exhibiting the new Alpha and NEX cameras, Sony lenses, and flash guns. There was a lot of interest with the new cameras so our time with the NEX-7 was curtailed. The Sony representatives were all very helpful allowing lens changes and personal memory card usage to grab some images of the pre-production NEX-7. The brief time with the NEX-7 was great. Since the NEX-5 was our main camera, it's been a while since we used a viewfinder. The NEX-7's EVF was a new experience. It felt odd in the beginning putting a small electronic screen up to your eye but we adjusted by the end of the night. We didn't have time to adjust the diopter, which we should have. All the information from the rear LCD is translated to the 2.36 million dot, 0.5" XGA OLED EVF. The EVF and slightly larger body of the NEX-7 made

Sony NEX-5N with Minolta 60 cm Rokkor Lens

Sony NEX-5N with Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor TD J L Smith wanted a telephoto lens for his Sony NEX-5N so he found a Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor TD lens. He used a Minolta SR mount to Sony E-mount lens adapter and started shooting. The Minolta 60cm Tele Rokkor translates to a 900mm FOV when used with the NEX-5N. Sony NEX-5N with LA-EA2 Lens Adapter

Image
Here is a Sony NEX-5N with the LA-EA2 lens adapter with phase detection autofocus and the 18-50mm f/2.8 lens from the Sony SLT a77 . As the video shows, the LA-EA2 adapter allows the NEX camera to autofocus almost all of Sony Alpha / Minolta A mount lenses. This is possible since the LA-EA2 has a built in motor and uses the translucent mirror technology from the Sony Alpha SLT line of cameras. The 15 point Phase Detection AF provides fast focusing speeds. The only exception are the Minolta xi lenses and teleconverters. The LA-EA1 lens adapter will only autofocus Sony SAM and SSM lenses . The LA-EA2 A mount to E mount lens adapter will be available on October 14, 2011 and will cost $399.99 Sony NEX-5n with LA-EA2 and Carl Zeiss 85mm ZA Lens The video is by Imaging Resource . Thanks!

Sony NEX Macro Extension Tubes Samples

Image
Sony NEX Macro Extension Tubes with 40mm Rokkor-M Lens Here are some sample shots using the Sony NEX E-mount macro extension tubes and some Rokkor-M lenses. The tubes contain no optical elements. They move the lens further away from the NEX's APS-C sensor therefore reducing the focusing distance and increasing magnification. The trade off to extension tubes are that more light is needed, which can be compensated with slow shutter speeds or high ISO. The shots below were handheld in bright daylight which is not ideal for macro shots. A walk around a small park with the NEX-5 , tubes, and the 40mm Rokkor-M gives us a different perspective. This fruit below is still unknown to us and was already interesting but at 100% zoom, a small community of insects makes it even more interesting. 100% Zoom on Image Sony NEX E-mount Extension Tubes Here are more samples from the 40mm Rokkor-M lens at f/8 or f/11 at high ISO. Sony NEX-3 with Minolta Auto Bellows III

Sony NEX-3 with Minolta Bellows III and Minolta 50mm f/1.4 MD Rokkor FlickrDelusion wanted to get large with his NEX-3. What better way than to use a bellows system for macro pictures. Luckily he had a Minolta Bellows III and a Minolta 50mm f/1.4 Rokkor MD at hand. A Minolta MD to Sony NEX E-mount lens adapter and he had linked the past to the present. Here are some samples of the NEX-3, the Minolta Auto Bellows III, and the Minolta 50mm at different apertures. 50mm MD Rokkor @f/16 50mm MD Rokkor @f/5.6 50mm MD Rokkor @f/1.4 Thank's FlickrDelusions!

NEX-5 with Minolta Rokkor MC 58mm f/1.2

Image
G.K. mounted the ultra fast Minolta Rokkor MC 58mm f/1.2 on the Sony NEX-5 and here are some of the results. The resulting 87mm equivalent focal lenght and the very shallow depth of field makes the Rokkor 58/1.2 a perfect portrait lens. See G.K.'s NEX-5 with Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 gallery .

Sony NEX-5 with Minolta MD 1600mm RF Lens

Image
Here is the Sony NEX-5 paired up with a Minolta MD 1600mm Reflex Lens with the use of the LE-EA1 adapter and an MD to A mount adapter. Far from the 7200mm lens but this 2400mm equivalent combination is easier to carry and focus. thanks kennyohngu !

Sony NEX-5 with 1440-7200mm Zoom Lens

Image
Sony NEX-5 with 1440-7200mm Zoom Lens GK emptied out his photo bag and came up with this monster. NEX-5 with flash, Sony LA-EA1 adapter, MD->MA adapter, Cosina 2x, Vivitar 2x and Tamron 2x teleconverters, Minolta MD extension ring set (28mm, 21mm, and 14mm), Vivitar 120-600 f5.6-8 MD mount lens, 82mm lens hood. So if our math is correct, the effective focal length is 120-600mm * 1.5x [sensor] * (2x)^3 [teleconverters] = 1440 to 7200mm. This is assuming that the MD>MA adapter is 1:1. Thanks GK !

Sony NEX Minolta SR Lens Adapter

Image
It's a big day for Sony NEX lens adapters! Here's the 1st one, it's a Sony NEX E-mount to Minolta Rokkor SR, MC, MD, and X-600 Lens Adapter. These Minolta lenses were fist produced in 1958 and ended their run in 1998 with the last X-600 lens. All of the mounts are compatible. This gives us hundreds of different options, the exact number we do not know - if you do please post it, but there are 53 MD lenses alone. Sony NEX Minolta SR Mount Adapter One of the most coveted Minolta lenses, MC Rokkor-PG 58mm f/1.2 The 58mm f/1.2 above would be the perfect portrait lens on a Sony NEX camera with an effective focal length of 87mm. Check out the Sony NEX E-mount to Minolta Rokkor MC MD Lens Adapter auction on eBay . For more info on the Minolta SR Mount and the lenses, check out the Rokkor Files .
